2009 General Assembly Website

Delegate Information:

  • Delegates must be elected by December 31, 2008
    • Please submit Certificate of Election and Delegate/Alternate Listing forms as soon as possible after the conclusion of your 2008 Conventio
  • Delegates MUST be:
    • Members of the Church of the Nazarene and NYI
    • At least 12 years of ge at the time of convention
    • A member of and reside on the district he or she represents at the time of global convention
  • If your district holds a 2008 NYI Convention, you are eligible to send 4 delegates to Global Convention. If you do not hold your District Convention, you are only eligible for 1 delegate
  • Delegates from each district consist of:
    • District NYI President (serving at time of Global Convention)
    • 1 Ministerial delegate
    • 1 Lay delegate over the age of 23
    • 1 Youth delegate between the age of 12-23
  • Housing information will be sent once delegates have been registered
  • All delegates attending as a delegate to both Global NYI Convention and the General Assembly must attend our central location site in Orlando, Florida, USA

Timeline:

  • November 1, 2007
    - On-line delegate registration and submission of resolutions will begin
  • February 2008
    - Satellite Site Locations will be finalized
  • March 2008
    - Satellite Site Coordinators will be finalized
  • December 31, 2008
    - Last day to elect and register NYI delegates and to submit resolutions
  • February 28, 2009
    - Regional satellite site locations will be finalized and confirmed
    - Visas to attend off-region sites must be completed by this time or delegate must attend regional site
  • April 30, 2009
    - Satellite site attendance will be finalized and confirmed
    - Non-delegate participation registration deadline
  • June 24-26, 2009

NYI Leadership Job Descriptions

Global NYI President Job Description

The responsibilities of the Global NYI President include:

  1. Providing vision and leadership to NYI in collaboration with the Director of NYI and NYI and Church leaders at every level.
  2. Presiding at the meetings of the Global NYI Convention and the meetings of the Global NYI Council.
  3. Advancing the interest of the Global NYI and the work of the NYI around the world
  4. Representing NYI as a member of the General Board of the Church of the Nazarene, with the approval of the General Assembly following election.
  5. Representing NYI as a member of the General Assembly at the close of his/her term.
  6. Carrying out other duties as assigned by the Global NYI Council and Convention.

Global NYI Vice-President Job Description

The responsibilities of the Global NYI Vice President include:

  1. Cooperating with the President in every way possible to carry out effective Youth Ministry globally.
  2. Ensuring accurate records of all proceedings of the Global NYI Convention and all meetings of the Global NYI Council are kept for submission to the General Board through the Sunday School Ministries and NYI committee and to the General Assembly
  3. Chairing the Global NYI Council, providing alternate representation on any boards or councils, and fulfilling and designated duties in the absence of the Global NYI President.
  4. Conducting the election of a New Global NYI President in the event of a vacancy, or assisting a Region in the election of a new Regional NYI President. Should there be a vacancy in the office of Global NYI Vice-President, the Global NYI president fulfills this function.
  5. Carrying out other duties as assigned by the Global NYI Council and Convention.
  6. Chairing the meeting of the newly elected USA Regional NYI Presidents at the Global NYI Convention to elect two USA representatives to the Global NYI Council.

Regional NYI President Job Description

The responsibilities of the Regional NYI President include:

  1. Giving leadership and direction to the Regional NYI, working in cooperation with NYI and Regional leadership.
  2. Chairing the Regional NYI Council to cast a vision for Youth Ministry on the Region.
  3. Facilitating the development of Youth Ministry on the Region and working with the Regional NYI Council to define the Regional NYI ministry focus according to needs.
  4. Presiding at the Regional Caucus at the Global NYI Convention
  5. Encouraging the development of NYI ministry on each District or Field within the Region.
  6. Representing the interests of Regional NYI on appropriate Regional boards and committees and, when applicable, to multi-regional committees
  7. Submitting an annual report to the Regional NYI Council, Regional Director and Regional Advisory Council (where applicable), and the Global NYI Council.
  8. Recommending an annual budget to the Regional NYI Council and the Regional Office (where applicable).
  9. Serving as a delegate to the Global NYI Convention and a member of the Global NYI Council, except in the USA, where two representatives elected from among the Regional NYI Presidents serve as members of the Global NYI Council. Should the President be unable to attend, a representative elected by the Regional NYI Council and approved by Regional Director (where applicable) may provide alternate representation.
  10. Serving as liaison between the Regional NYI and Nazarene institutions of higher education on the Region to promote communication, cooperation, and ministry partnership.
